Manage and Track Consigned Inventory

Buyers and suppliers now have an end-to-end visibility and control of your consigned inventory.

Note

This content is subject to change until August 18, 2025 due to Coupa Release r43 changes.

With Inventory Collaboration, both buyers and suppliers have direct visibility into every consigned inventory step, from when items are delivered to the warehouse until they are consumed.

To support this feature, a new Is consigned? attribute is available for use when creating purchase orders via API. Once a PO is issued with this attribute for an item tagged as consigned in a specific warehouse, the flag appears in:

  • Purchase Order lines
  • Item 360 view
  • Liquid templates and emails sent to suppliers

When shipping consigned items, you can create an Advance Shipment Notice (ASN) to let the buyer know what you've shipped and that it's on its way. Once the items arrive, the buyer uses the information from the ASN to create a "receive-to-inventory" receipt. The purchase order and on-hand balance are automatically updated with the received quantity. However, the items remains under your control until its consumption by the buyer.

Once the item is consumed, the buyer can upload an inventory transaction with the consumed quantity. As a result, the on-hand balance and the purchase order updates with the total Consumed Quantity.

Note:
  • The receipt price of the consumed items is the same as the order line price. However, the consumption price is based on the CSV or API inventory transaction. If the price is not sent on the inventory transaction, then the order line price is also used for the consumption.
  • You can add the new Is Consigned? and Consumed Quantity fields to API filters.
