Digital Wallets

Use your PayPal business account to pay suppliers, one-off vendors, and individuals doing business as themselves who may prefer to be paid using their PayPal or Venmo account.

Introduction

Suppliers, one-off vendors, and other recipients can simply provide their legal name with an email or phone number, which simplifies the payment transaction. Some suppliers may not want to sign up through the Coupa Supplier Portal. Some recipients may be reluctant to share their bank account information. And for small one-time payments, it may be more trouble that it's worth to create a supplier record for each one.

With Coupa Pay and PayPal payouts, you can send up to $10,000 USD per payment from your verified PayPal digital wallet to recipient PayPal and Venmo accounts that accept USD.

Note

PayPal can be used for Digital Wallet Company Financial Accounts (pay-from) and beneficiary accounts (pay-to), whereas Venmo can only be used for beneficiary accounts.

Alert

PayPal is not accessible from behind a VPN. If you are using a VPN, you may not be able to process digital wallet payments.

How it works

Your PayPal business account must be enabled to use Payouts and it must be verified by PayPal. To enable Payouts, the account holder must contact PayPal and PayPal will need to exercise due diligence to comply with federal regulations. The process can take up to a few days, and must be completed before Payment Partner setup and before payments are attempted.

Note

Releasing a payment batch that pays from your PayPal business account will immediately begin fund transfers from your PayPal wallet. The funds must be in your PayPal account for the payment to complete. Insufficient funds in your account will cause payment failures, resulting in a status of Completed with Errors.

The Payment Batch Authorize and Release summary window which appears after you click Release is handy for double-checking that your wallet is fully funded. The window summarizes with a count of payment lines and a total so that you can ensure your payments complete without issue.

Digital Payment Notification

When the Payment Batch is released with PayPal or Venmo digital payments, it automatically triggers an email notification to your recipients.  If the recipient is connected with an account on the Coupa Supplier Portal, they will receive notifications according to their notification preferences.
