You will notice that instead of passing in things such as UOM, price, supplier, etc... you can simply pass in the item name and the system will then default everything based on the item, just as it does through the user interface.

Requisitions POST
Overview
The following describes how you can use the Coupa API to create requisitions.
Our Requisition Creation API allows you to:
1. Create a requisition in DRAFT mode for a specified user
2. Create and submit a requisition for approval on-behalf of the specified user.
There are 2 URLs you can now POST new requisitions to:
<instance url>/api/requisitions- This will create a requisition in draft status, which will then need to be submitted manually.<instance url>/api/requisitions/new/submit_for_approval- This will create a requisition and attempt to submit it for approval / buyer action.
In both cases, a requisition needs to be valid and submittable in order to be saved. Specifically, these elements are required:
- At least one requisition line
- A description or item for each line
- A currency for each line
- A quantity for quantity-based lines
- Any required custom fields
- All custom validations must pass
Successful requests will return HTTP 201 Created. The body of the response will include the created requisition.
Unsuccessful requests will return HTTP 400 Bad Request. The body of the response will include validation errors formatted as XML.

Referenced Objects
This API will only create the following objects as part of the call:
- Requisition headers
- Requisition lines
- Text attachments
- URL attachments
All other referenced objects (UOMs, items, users, suppliers, accounts, addresses, P-cards, etc.) must already exist in the system.
Below is a list of referenced objects and how the alternative methods of looking up the object as part of the API call. For example, when specifcying the requested-by user, you can include the user's id, their login, or their email address, and the system will look them up. There's no need to include more than one of them. If multiple search criteria are used, then all must match in order to successfully find a record. Field Definitions

Notes
- In a requisition-line, you can use either a description (free-form) or an item (catalog item). If an item id is used, the item must exist. The <source-type></source-type> is not used and ignored.
- Currencies, users in the requested-by and suppliers must be in the system with a status of active.
- Item: If a preferred supplier and price is available for an item it will be used unless the unit-price is specified. If a unit-price is specified, it will override the default pricing available for the item. While it is not an error to specify a description and an item, using an item will set the description to the item description, ignoring the passed in description field.
- Defaulting: Unless otherwise specified in the XML, the system will respect the relevant defaulting within the system. Such as defaulting payment and shipping terms from the supplier record.
- Line Numbering: The API expects the line-num to increment by one for each new line number. If you use the same line-num, the system will ignore all other lines with the same number.
